Building Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs Today in Grenada
Meet Father and Son, Dr. Akasha and Dakari
One day, Dr. Akasha asked his son what was most meaningful to him, and Dakari replied:
“Dad, I want to help young people like me live their entrepreneurial dreams now as opposed to waiting until after they graduate from college.”
And so Imagine Grenada began.
The Imagine Grenada Youth Entrepreneur Camp offers a hands-on experience for children aged 9 to 16. Sponsored by Sawubona, a company dedicated to growth and well-being, the camp equips participants with essential life skills and knowledge. Each session includes workshops on creative writing, vision boarding, conflict resolution, and business planning. The aim is to help young people build their listening and communication skills while encouraging teamwork and self-awareness.
The camp’s curriculum is based on the Inner Development Goals (IDG) framework, which emphasises 5 inner skills from the field of human development needed for sustainable development. They are:
- Being – relationship to self
- Thinking – cognitive skills
- Relating – caring for others and the world
- Collaborating – social skills
- Acting – enabling change
Participants brainstorm solutions to local challenges and develop plans for future projects. This initiative not only empowers the young entrepreneurs but also strengthens the community, showcasing the potential for innovation in Grenada.
Through Imagine Grenada, Dr.Akasha and Dakar are helping to shape a brighter future for their island.
